Senseable\u00a0(adj): simultaneously able to sense and be sensible<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThe \u201cSmart City\u201d definition was coined at the turn of the 20th\u00a0century to characterize Western societies\u2019 optimism about how new digital technologies would improve living conditions in the world\u2019s major metropolis. However, since the late 2010s, the term\u2019s reputation steadily declined, as it became closely associated with the viewpoint \u2013 typical of the late Web 2.0 period – that the Internet had turned from an instrument of bottom-up empowerment to a tool for technocratic political control. As the \u201cSmart\u201d label lost its reputation, the \u201cSenseable\u201d neologism started to emerge. By the\u00a02050s, the new adjective had become mainstream, particularly in the distich \u201cSenseable city\u201d. With its double meaning \u2013 \u201cable to sense\u201d and “sensible\u201d- the term was used to define and support some of the most progressive digital policies of the time, thanks also to the efforts of the coordinated campaigns of \u201cDigital Humanists\u201d in San Francisco, Boston, Abuja, Berlin, Ho Chi Minh City, and other leading cultural centers mid-21st\u00a0century.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
